Will the small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) test tell me if I have a lactose or fructose intolerance?

The SIBO test won't tell you if you have a lactose or fructose intolerance, but SIBO can cause fructose or lactose intolerance.

If you want to find out if you have lactose or fructose intolerance, you could ask your GP to test you, or start with a SIBO test from us.

SIBO is a common cause of lactose or fructose intolerance because the bacteria growing in your small intestine love to eat carbohydrates like lactose and fructose, and when they do, they give off gases that cause your symptoms.

If you do have SIBO, you may find that once you address it and tackle its root causes, you'll be able to tolerate lactose and fructose again.
