# If my small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) test is positive will I be able to take it to my doctor and get the right antibiotics?
## If your SIBO test is positive, you could take it to your doctor and ask for antibiotics, but they may not recognise the test.
With the results of a positive SIBO breath test, we usually recommend herbal antimicrobials and digestive support, depending on the specific symptoms.
The herbal antimicrobials work in a similar way to antibiotics by reducing the bacteria in the small intestine and are extremely effective, while being gentler on the body than antibiotics.
Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics based on the results of the SIBO test, but as this is a relatively new test and not widely available on the NHS, many doctors are not aware of it.
