Do you give advice on what food to eat if my small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) test comes back positive?

If you get a positive SIBO test result, our practitioners will choose your health plan based on a combination of your results, symptom survey and lifestyle.

If your SIBO test is positive, we usually (but not always) recommend that you reduce FODMAP foods. Foods that are high in FODMAPs can aggravate and feed the overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine.

A typical plan to eliminate SIBO would include a low FODMAP diet with some antimicrobial supplements to help reduce the bacteria. We recommend you reintroduce higher FODMAP foods after a period of time.

We also recommend retesting at the end of the plan to confirm the bacteria have been eliminated.

To help relieve your symptoms for now, you could try eliminating high FODMAP foods and see if that makes a difference.
